In the Summer of 2010 children from the Berceni villages took free English and Computer lessons in the Computer lab built by Second Chance, located in the Intergenerational Centre in Corlatesti. Their teacher was a volunteer from Berceni village – Andreea Anghelache- currently a student at the mathematics and Informatics University of Bucharest. Approximately 50 children were divided by age group and were taught according to their learning capacities. This project was a great success and even had an impact on the wider community of Beceni as some adults also signed up to the lessons with a view to improving their English and IT skills.
In the summer of 2011 another centre with summer school activities opened in Catunu village. Prior to the opening we renovated a training classroom, a kitchen and a storage room. This is now used as our 2nd Intergenerational Centre with summer school activities (English, computer, art lessons taught by volunteers).
The internet was provided by our faithful sponsor Romtelecom. Furniture and computers for the centres were provided by Provident Financial, BAT, Garanti Bank, Romtelecom, Bayer Romania.
The Catunu centre was renovated with donations raised from a fundraising event organized by Christine Edwards, Jane Harkin, Janet Johnson British School Community.
